Homely Flavours at Flat Three
Flat Three is a Japanese-Skandi restaurant just near Holland Park entrance. A friend and I met here for lunch and a pre-Christmas catch-up.
The restaurant is at basement level but upon descending the stairs, the space opens up to a deceptively large and bright dining room. The decor and tableware stood out with the deep blue linens popping against dark wooden tables. We went for the full three course lunch with vegan options clearly labelled on the menu.

First was an amuse bouche consisting of a simple squash velouté. It was creamy, delicious and not too heavy.

The pumpkin and whipped tofu dish that followed was tasty and substantial. The pumpkin was ever so slightly undercooked, and the whipped tofu was a bit forgettable but everything came together to make a flavourful, satisfying dish.

Following this was the artichoke and buckwheat dish. It was rich and creamy with crispy elements (can’t recall what they were) keeping textures interesting. It was heartening food on a cold day, I could have had two.

Closing off the meal was a plum and myrtle crumble with frozen almond, which was a perfectly fine dessert and a good finish to a great meal.

With the bill we were offered a couple of fruit candies, which the waiter confirmed were vegan.
Flat Three is certainly worth a visit. The service was excellent, friendly, and proficient. The food was delicious with interesting homely flavours, perfect for a winter lunch.
